Search Engine Optimization for Blog Posts:
Six Simple Steps to Blog Content SEO
Content is king, and we know it gets our websites seen. Each time Google updates its algorithm, online business people with less-than-quality content or relevancy see their site pushed down in Google’s results. Those with passion for their offerings have an advantage: we care about our business, and we have something important to communicate.
But as entrepreneurs, especially those of us with passions toward unconventional or niche audiences, writing blog content isn’t just about being seen; it’s about being seen by the right people. The right SEO and branded content will place our offerings in front of the right audience of potential customers, those seeking our content and offerings. You need SEO tips for blog posts to make this happen.
And you don’t have to do it all on your own. We recommend plugins like Yoast (Lynan’s personal fave) or All-in-One SEO – just spend five extra minutes on each blog post, and these tools do the rest. It’s really that simple and they’ll guide in exactly what to do.
Blog post length should always be at least 200-250 words. Even if it’s accompanied by a video or vlog, always write up interesting, related content, or summarize the video using the key words and phrases you’re focused on. And also the keywords and phrases that your ideal customers are searching for on Google and other search engines.
Here are the essential six SEO tips for blog posts. The must-haves for business blogs:
1. Know what your blog is about

The more high quality content, the more likely your content will be shared and linked to, thus increasing your SEO! Always write blog posts that have amazing information, don’t just write for the sake of writing.
2. Where to utilize your keywords
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Do not overuse the keywords in an unnatural way (keyword stuffing) or this will be considered spam in Google’s eyes and you may be penalized. Just be in integrity and use the words frequently & naturally.
3. Optimize the actual content by including chosen keywords in the title and in the content at least five times. These terms and phrases should be centered around the main things people are searching for. Google Ad Words has a free keyword tool to help find these phrases. The images you use to enhance your blog posts can also be optimized. Use your keyword in the “Alt Text”(Alternate text field) of your photo. This is a way for people to find you when they are searching relevant photos on a topic as well.
4. Optimize blog post titles – (Like what we’ve been suggesting to our current clients Puzzle Israel – ie Top 5 places to visit in Jerusalem, What to Pack when traveling to Israel, etc.) by doing research on what’s out there already (BuzzSumo is a great tool for this). Look for holes where you can write amazing content or MORE informed better content compared with what is out there. This is your chance to shine and share your unique brilliant take on a topic.
5. Customize the Meta description – the sentence or two that appears in Google search results under the name of the page. This is your opportunity to stand out and invite in readers. Its a place to share your compelling marketing message about your post using the important keyword phrases in a natural normal sentence. Write it from your content using this formula:
Compose a simple, unique sentence about the exact information presented in the post in under 156 characters.
Example:
Title: How to draw elephants
Meta Description: Learn how to draw elephants with easy step by step drawing and sketching tutorials.
6. Label your content by including a minimum of five searchable tags for your blog post. These can be unique combination of searchable keywords and the topics within the article. Also optimize your blog categories to again make the visitor’s experience enjoyable and easy to search.
7. Organize your content in easy-to-understand categories that your visitors will be interested in. The better categorized your blog is, the more likely users are to find additional relevant posts once they’ve clicked through. This will lead to additional page views, and potentially more shares and links, which are great for SEO.
The best way to ensure your content ranks is to make sure it’s high-quality and share worthy. Teach your readers something they didn’t know, and they’re much more likely to invite their friends to the conversation.
Best of luck on your journey of optimizing your blog for SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Post below if any of this recommendations helped you get more traffic to your site and capture more ideal client leads. We want to hear from you!
